Since the war started animal rescuers in Israel have made huge efforts to save stray dogs. Rescuers in Arad and Yeruham go into the desert everyday to feed and save the dogs. Even if it’s a remote location, or under rocket fire, they will do anything for the precious dogs. The rescuers get little to no support from the government and barely any donations, but they never give up, because Israelis love animals!
Soldiers brought animals from the war zone. Some soldiers kept dogs in their tank under fire, they brought them to Israel, to safety because every life matters. One soldier brought a dog from Rafah, and after the dog’s chip was scanned, it turned out he was a kidnapped dog. The soldier then returned the dog to his family in Israel.
The government on the other hand has lost their mind. To ‘solve’ the stray dog crisis, they give all the budget to the evil Agriculture Ministry. This ministry receives millions of shekels, but they refuse to sterilize the dogs or build shelters, instead shoot dogs with bullets, or with a poison arrows, they also poison cats.
Recently, the Civil Administration and the Nature and Parks claimed that crocodiles could be used in a “terrorist attack” if they are set free by a hostile group. Instead of improving the farm’s fence, they carried out a violent massacre and killed hundreds of crocodiles in Petza’el.
In December 2025 dozens of dogs and puppies were shot to death in Zikim. These were friendly dogs. Soldiers serving in the region cared for the dogs and became emotionally attached to them. One day assassins belonging to the Nature and Parks Authority showed up and shot the dogs. The soldiers saw everything and are traumatized by the senseless killing.
Dafna from S.O.S Animals said she is not surprised by the lack of compassion regarding stray dogs. Instead of finding a humanitarian solution to reduce the population, such as sterilization, and vaccination in Israel thousands of dogs are put to death every year by Municipal Veterinarians, by Nature and Parks Authority and the Agriculture Ministry.
This needs to stop! We need to demand from the Israeli government to give all the stray dog budget to animal rescue groups. To stop funding the Agriculture Ministry. To make breeding dogs illegal and encourage adopting from shelters. Exotic animals such as alligators should never be killed. Animals are not terrorists; they deserve to live and be protected. Dogs who enter Israel from Gaza should be vaccinated and protected. All dogs’ lives matter! Israel needs to build shelters for cats and stop poisoning them. Please sign and share this petition!
