Reinstate Home Economics Courses in nama national High School
As a student at nama national High School, I am saddened to learn about the removal of home economics from our curriculum. Many people view home economics as insignificant, but I truly believe it plays a vital role in equipping young individuals with essential life skills, preparing them for managing households in the future.
A 2023 study from the Journal of Family & Consumer Sciences highlights that home economics encompasses much more than cooking and sewing; it teaches fundamental skills such as nutrition, budgeting, and personal finance management. These skills foster personal responsibility and help students understand daily tasks they will encounter as adults. Furthermore, UNICEF emphasizes the importance of life skills-based education, including home economics, to empower young people to effectively tackle life's challenges. This underscores the significant role of home economics in providing a well-rounded education, as noted in their 2021 report.
